wrap it up
Great, wish I had had more time to enjoy it and process all the info. I found it very informative and will continue to explore and learn how to better use these tools. Thank You.
wikis
This would have been so helpful personally when I was planning our church's annual fall supper and fundraisers..... the many emails exchanged in various ways stages of ideas and thoughts and plans. Not so sure on it's use in the library setting.... will have to give it more thought......hmmm
tagging - bookmarking
Great idea for common questions the circulation desk gets, or updates like on the possibility of building a new library or the location of this library or the ongoing construction to this new library. It could be handy.
face book
I do wish I had more time to reconnect with old friends and keep up on what is happening with them. I have just under a 100 friends and like to make one big announcement for everyone, like look at out new home and boy does moving all my stuff again stink! I read the article briefly about the aging of face book, very interesting that us old people took over a site meant for kids. I still try not to put to much info out there... maybe some day I can return some of the goats and mango trees I have received from friends, their farms must be great looking.
Google Doc
I love the list of document templates and played with a budget planner. I like how neat it looks, I'm not sure that I have the dedication to keep it updated at home. Work documents are work but at home I am more likely to put it off again and again. The fact that what ever you put in one of "their" documents, becomes theirs make uncomfortable... not that any one would steal my personal budget planner, since it is obviously out of whack income to saving ratio's wise...
podcasting
I found some funny, some interesting and some disturbing things while I watched some podcast. I love the It-Librarian... since each one of us at a times is called to teach a patron how to use our computers. Most of the basic stuff I can muddle through but have to call for help when I quickly get in over my head. I hope to get stronger in this area over time. Podcast/ YouTube etc. still make me nervous when used for personal reasons. It would be great to have a story time or a program that not all could attend so patrons could catch up before the next program.
Trading card
I made a genetic trading card, but did not want to set up yet another account so I linked it to my face book page. This has been fun but setting up all these accounts makes me nervous. The trading card thing is interesting, but..... who has the time for all of this online stuff? My real life is very busy, I would have to give up other things (like gardening, reading, playing with my child, Geo Caching, travel, movies and TV shows) to make time to use all this cool on line stuff. So again I question the use of our societies time, sitting alone looking at a computer screen or face to face with other living beings??? I'm sure you can tell I will choose real people.
flickr
I love the idea of keeping my photo's safe and sharing select pictures with family and friends but am worried about having ALL My PHOTO'S were someone may someday be able to misuse them. Is that paranoid, maybe? I like the idea of using it to show off or display our library or library events, but would want to be careful not to have persons in the pictures who would be uncomfortable about having their photo on the web. I think the younger generation is going to regret putting so much of their personal lives out there in the internet/cyberspace world for all to see. I just want people to be safe and careful what information they give the public/world.

information junkie
My fear of using and becoming familiar with RSS, Twitter, Facebook, Utube, email and blogging is that I will become a bigger info junkie than I already am. My family and friends will not play trivial pursuit type games with me, because of all the odd ball information stuck in my head. Email already makes my life easier and harder at the same time.... what should be a quick way to communicate takes more time than I plan for every single time, maybe the phone or mail was quicker? I am so easily side tracked by brite shinny things that it is hard to stay focused.
At work we spend so much of our day at the computer already, should we add more isolation time. I feel like twitter, facebook, utube are more for personal use, their foreverness makes me nervous for the younger generation. We all made mistakes and thankfully most people have forgotten most of mine, but once they put personal "stuff" out there; and it may seem funny and harmless at the time, is there forever. may be i over think things?

Blogs
Blogging, my question has always been why would someone want to read my rambling thoughts. I am a get to the point and get going person. Also my time is valuable to me and limited, do I want to take the time to read every ones thoughts for this moment? I have a face book account, which I rarely check, but am curious and at times stumped by what people write... like "off to bed, tired, going to the dentist today and other random statements". Why say anything unless it is valuable or interesting?
is it just me or has society's ability to communicate face to face getting less and less? Am I just a cranky old lady or just a busy old lady? But I am excited about this challenge and what I will learn from it and most importantly how can I use it to make my life easier at work and home?

Habits
The easiest habit for me is creating my own learning tool box. I have found people, life experiences and challenges sometimes more informative than books alone, not that I don't learn as much as I can on a topic via books, magazines, TV, radio, the web and more. I just love to learn about things and peoples.
The hardest habit is using technology to my advantage, I envy the younger generations fearlessness's when it comes to tech things. Learning how to work new gadgets and all the special features is a at times overwhelming. I love what technology does for us and I hate my growing dependence of it. But it is here to stay so that is why I am doing this challenge, to pull myself out of the dark ages of tech stuff. I want to use it for personal and professional growth. tht15
